Canoe-A-Thon 2008

A timed run on the Lackawanna River from two Mid Valley launch sites, to the finish line at the Olive Street Bridge in Scranton.  Canoeists from either launch site have the option of competing for the fastest time as part of a competitive athletic event or spending a more leisurely time with a fun downstream paddle.  As in previous years, ribbons and medals will be awarded at the finish line for first, second, and third place finishers in seven categories for each of the two launch sites.  Participants may use their own canoes and kayaks, or may reserve a rental canoe or kayak provided by special arrangement to the LRCA.  Renting a  canoe or kayak requires pre-registration, as a limited number of rentals are available, and the LRCA encourages pre-registration for all canoeists.  Rental canoes will be offered from the Peckville launch site only; if you want to launch from Archbald, you'll need your own canoe or kayak.

Duck-A-Thon 2008

The courageous LRCA flock of ten  duckies takes a mid-river launch near the Middle Street Pumping station next to the Farmers Market into the waters of the Lackawanna, for an exciting race to the finish at the Olive Street Bridge.  A cash prize of $500, $200, and $50 will be awarded to the sponsors of the first, second, and third place ducks respectively that cross the finish line.  Ducks are available for a $5 individual sponsorship, or sponsor a flock of eight  for $20.  Call, email, or stop by our offices to sponsor a duck or flock.  Show the world you are supporting the work of the LRCA to help clean up, conserve and protect the Lackawanna River and its watershed. Share a Duck-a-thon sponsorship with friends, colleagues, and employees.

Regatta 2008

This is the sixth year for this event which encourages participants to decorate their floating vessels and parade down the River between the the Middle Street Pumping station next to the Farmers Market and the Olive Street Bridge.  Businesses, corporations, and individuals are welcome to compete for prizes in this "parade on water."
