  Dragonflies are among the oldest insect organisms. They eat strictly other macroinvertebrates and use their large eyes to ambush or stalk their prey. They are one of only a few aquatic insects that use their eyes for active hunting, usually near aquatic vegetation or in calmer areas of the River. Dragonflies are pollution intermediate organisms and are more common in the River upstream of Carbondale, but have also been found as far downstream as South Scranton.
